Choosing a Web ServerThe purpose of all this is to get your site up where other people on the internet can see it, right? Well that can actually be pretty simple, and free as well. You need to find someone to host your web pages. This means that you will upload all of the graphics, html pages, wav files and whatever else your site may contain to the host and they will store it for you and make it available to other viewers. There are many free Web Hosts out there here are a few of them to try. However they will not let you use these sites for buisness services. Yahoo's geocities - www.geocities.com The process for publishing on these sites is fairly straight forward. They have there own File Managers that alow you to upload your files straight to them. And they even have homebuilders that will help you build your site and practically do it all for you. This is a great way to get started albeit very limited. If you want to go a step further you can use an FTP which is generally much more reliable. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. This is a method of transfering documents to the server. You can get FTP programs on the web, some for free. Some pretty good ones are CoffeeCup FTP, BulletProof, CuteFTP and WS_FTP. Make sure that the server or web host you choose supports FTP. If they do they will let you know what information you need for transferring your files (generally a URL, username, and password). Here are a couple of pointers for geting your pages up on the web:
